On 14th Of September, 2015, the St. Mary’s Prestigious College Awka finally started with a population of 71 students and 7 regular staff members apart from the Manager/Principal, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Odika and two other part-time priests and a seminarian. The first public ceremony of the school was the first investiture which took place on 10th December 2015. The formal opening and maiden investiture of its pioneer students was marked by pontifical mass by His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor. The Royal Father of the day was Sir Dr. Obi Gibson Nwosu, the Eze Uzu II of Awka. Other dignitaries came from both church and state including parents of the students.

With a new academic session of 2016/2017, the school witnesses some growth in population of students and staff. The school grew to over 300 students with 17 teachers and three part-time teachers. The college went into a new glorious phase with the coming of Rev. Fr. Kevin Eemmaduka as the second Manager cum principal of this institution. More books were acquired for the school library and State inspector from the Ministry of Education were brought in for the approval of the school for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). As the approval came in, the first set of students registered for their external examination. A policy of zero tolerance to any form of examination malpractice was re-instated. Meanwhile, the school was brimming over with boys and girls eager to pass through the walls of the great institution. The upsurge of the population was for no other reason but for the fact that the school was determined to stand up to its motto of “Knowledge and Fear of God”. With the assistance from the Diocesan Bishop, a new building of gigantic proportions was constructed besides the church building of the Parish. From all indications, the school is moving from strength to strength.
